Team of the Week: how it works and when to buy

· 2 min read

Every week EA releases upgraded cards for players who performed well in real life. Knowing how their prices usually move helps you buy at the right time and avoid paying the peak.

What TOTW is

The Team of the Week gathers the players who stood out in the previous round of the real leagues. Each one gets a special card with a higher overall and attributes than the base version, and the week's selection goes into Ultimate Team packs for a limited time.

The same player can appear in more than one TOTW during the season. Each new appearance creates another card, usually better than the previous one.

How prices usually move

TOTW cards commonly open expensive, because supply is low in the first hours, and drop during the week as more people open packs. Once they leave packs, the most wanted ones tend to rise again, because supply stops growing.

This pattern is not guaranteed. Cards used in SBCs, such as high-rated cards used as fodder, can rise mid-week if a challenge appears that asks for that rating.

When to buy

If you want the card to play with, it is rarely worth paying in the first hours. Waiting a few days usually costs less. If the idea is to resell, the interesting moment is the end of the pack window, and remember that every sale pays EA's 5% tax.

  • Add the cards you want to the wishlist and turn on the price alert.
  • Follow the biggest risers and fallers of the last 24 hours before deciding.
  • Check whether the TOTW card is actually better on the pitch than the cheaper base version.
