Ultimate Team Evolutions: how to pick the right card

· 3 min read

Evolutions upgrade a card you already own, as long as it meets the requirements. Picking the right card to put in is what separates an ordinary card from one that plays like a special.

How an Evolution works

Each Evolution has entry requirements, such as a maximum overall, accepted positions, excluded positions, a maximum number of PlayStyles and sometimes a pace limit. Once activated, the card goes through levels. Each level is completed with match objectives or training time and unlocks upgrades to attributes, PlayStyles, roles or skill moves.

Some Evolutions are free; others cost coins or FC Points. Every Evolution has a deadline to activate and a slightly longer deadline to finish its levels.

Upgrades have caps

Upgrades do not stack without limit. Each attribute has a cap: if an Evolution gives up to 80 overall, a card that is already 80 gains nothing in overall. So the ideal card enters with attributes well below the caps but already has what the Evolution does not improve, such as weak foot, height or the right PlayStyles.

On the FCUTeam Evolutions page each Evolution shows the maximum overall it reaches and the cap for each attribute. Compare them with the card before activating.

How to pick the cheapest card

For most Evolutions the card that gets the most out of it is cheap: a high overall does not matter, because the Evolution will take it to the cap anyway. What matters is position, physical profile and the attributes the Evolution does not touch.

Under each Evolution, FCUTeam lists the cards the community evolves most there, sorted from cheapest to most expensive on your platform. It is a good starting point, because those cards have already been filtered by people who play.

  • Check the position and alternative positions: position Evolutions usually accept only a few.
  • Prefer cards with a good weak foot and skill moves, which are rarely upgraded.
  • Avoid cards already close to the caps: they gain little.

In which order to run several Evolutions

A card can go through several Evolutions in a row, as long as it keeps meeting the requirements of each one. Because requirements usually cap the overall, do the Evolutions with the lowest overall limit first and leave the ones that accept stronger cards for later. If you run the big Evolution first, the card may become too strong for the others.

Repeatable Evolutions can be used on several different cards. They are worth using on cheap cards you want to try in your team before investing.

Before paying for an Evolution

If the Evolution costs coins, compare it with the price of a ready-made card on the market with attributes similar to the final result. Sometimes buying the finished card is cheaper and does not require playing the objectives.
