Icons and Heroes: when they are worth the price
· 2 min read
Icons and Heroes are the cards that make squad building easiest, but they are also among the most expensive. Understanding what they do for chemistry helps you decide whether the investment is worth it.

What they are
Icons are retired football legends with no current club. Heroes are memorable players from a specific league, remembered for a period or a moment. Both appear in different versions throughout the season, each with its own overall and price.
Always on full chemistry
In position, Icons and Heroes have 3 chemistry without depending on anyone else. That frees the slot: you choose the card for what it does on the pitch, without needing teammates from the same league or nation.
Icons also help the rest of the squad. They count for their nation and for every league present in the starting XI, which helps teammates reach the league thresholds. An Icon can be the piece that links two blocks of a hybrid squad.
When it is worth it
It is worth it when the Icon or Hero solves two things at once: it improves the position and completes the chemistry of the players around it. If it only comes in as one more good player, a regular special card in the same price range can perform the same or better.
Compare before buying. Put the Icon and the alternative in the comparison tool and look at pace, AcceleRATE and PlayStyles, not just the overall.
- Check the position: out of position, full chemistry does not apply.
- See how many squad players gain a league point from the Icon.
- Be wary of high-rated versions with low pace: they tend to be expensive and perform poorly.
Icon and Hero SBCs
Some Icons and Heroes come from SBCs. The card is untradeable, so you cannot sell it later, and the real cost is the sum of the fodder spent. Compare that cost with the price of a tradeable version on the market before starting; the SBC page shows the estimated cost of each challenge.
Where to compare
The FCUTeam Icons and Heroes pages list every version with rating, PlayStyles and price on your platform. In the squad builder you can see right away how the Icon affects the other players' chemistry.
